Opening Ceremony The performance "Édith Piaf" Youth theater studio Terra Incognita, director Edward Jefarsky. (Philadelphia, PA) “I do not sing for everyone—I sing for each person.” Her voice sounded like the very soul of Paris—fragile, passionate, and untamed. She was more than a singer; she was an episode of her time, the breath of the streets, a cry of love, and a whisper of pain. Édith Piaf is not just a performance. It is a revelation. It is an attempt to look behind the curtain of the fate of a great woman whose life became a song—bitter, beautiful, and real. Based on her memoirs, the production leads the audience along the winding path of her soul—to where the spotlight meets the shadow of loneliness and where every note is born from the heart. |

Performance: “Commedia: Masks and People” (Rossinca Heritage School Theater, California) “Commedia: Masks and People” is a musical performance for children and adults about traveling performers who journey across Italy and play commedia dell’arte. From an improvised stage and an old wagon to magnificent palace halls, they step out to perform as if each show were the most important of their lives. Like bright nesting dolls, the scenes unfold one after another; masks change, play and reality intertwine, and laughter and delightful confusion are born. This is a performance about how behind every role there is always a person, and beneath every mask lives a beating human heart.

Performance: "The Flying Ship" Some songs and images settle in our minds forever from early childhood. And the most amazing thing is that, for several generations now, we have continued to sing these songs and love these characters. We invite you to see our version of this story! “The Flying Ship” is the story of Princess Zabava, who refuses to marry for convenience and falls in love with Ivan the chimney sweep, who dreams of building a "Flying Ship" so they can fly away together. The fairy tale teaches that honesty and love triumph over deceit and greed—and that dreams are worth fighting for! Believe it or not, it’s going to be a lot of fun!

We will talk about how children read today, which formats and themes truly resonate, how a magazine can become a friend rather than a “required assignment,” and how to turn reading into a joy instead of a duty. The meeting will be interesting for both children and adults: 📚 A conversation about books, childhood, and trust. |

Performance: "The Bandits of Cardamom" Alma Mater Youth Theatre, directed by Katya Kerov (Boston, MA) The Alma Mater Youth Theater presents the play In the sunny town of Cardamom live quiet, law-abiding people, but nearby — in an old tower — hide three famous robbers: Kasper, Jesper, and Jonathan. They love stealing sausages, pies, and — just in case — even more pies! But one day, fate leads them to an important discovery: to be truly happy, it’s not enough just to take — you also need to know how to help one another. The production is based on the famous play (and book) by Thorbjørn Egner and is filled with music, humor, vivid characters, unexpected adventures, and playful transformations. Young audiences laugh at the robbers’ antics, adults recognize themselves in the characters, and the entire hall discovers together that kindness and friendship can change the world. This is a story for children and parents about compassion, responsibility, and the magical power of good deeds. Who’s sneaking off with something here |

Now that the whole world is in quarantine and continues to live in unprecedented conditions, we understand that communication and creative energy cannot be stopped. It is time to rethink and learn to live in a new way.
Modern opportunities are limitless, we are close, no matter what countries we live in. Perfection is not achievable, and we are always moving forward, so now is a great opportunity to learn the technique of speech and the artistic word. Now more than ever we are going through these troubles together.
In this context, the Association of Russian-speaking theaters of America (ART), with the support of the Union of Theater Workers of the Russian Federation and the Russian Center of the International Association of Amateur Theaters (AITA), decided to conduct a series of classes for theater workers working in Russian around the world. This project was called the online THEATER PROJECT "AUTUMN SCHOOL".
During a series of master classes, managers of amateur Russian-language theaters studied the basics of directing, acting, and speech techniques. In total, the project involved more than 40 people from different parts of the world, working not only in the United States and Canada, but also in Italy, Finland, Israel, Russia, Turkey and the Baltic States.
The class on Directing was led by Mikhail Nikolayevich Chumachenko, Professor of the Department of Drama Directing at the Russian Institute of Theater Arts (GITIS). During the master class, M. N. Chumachenko analyzed and touched upon the issues of staging prose material of the fairy tale "Adventure of Pinocchio". In the second lesson, using the method of effective analysis, the relationship between the proposed circumstances and events in the play-fairy tale by A. Tolstoy was compared.
The second master class in the series of seminars was an acting class. Classes were taught by Roman Mikhailovich KALKAEV, an actor of the Moscow Theater of Music and Poetry under the direction of Elena Kamburova, a theater teacher, a member of the Union of theater workers of the Russian Federation.
The master class on speech technique and artistic word was conducted by Nina Denisovna Amelina - theater and film actress, speech teacher of the school of speech under the guidance of Elena Laskova and the Moscow school of Radio and Television.

Many participants wrote words of gratitude to the organizers and pointed out how important such events are during the quarantine period, when artists and theater workers in particular are the first to suffer.
"I want to express my gratitude for organizing a great seminar.
And for opening my eyes and giving me inspiration! I am not alone, there are many of us and we are a great interesting community from all over the world. “, wrote one of the participants of the school.

Association of Russian Speaking Theatres is supported in part by funding from the Montgomery County Government and the Arts & Humanities Council of Montgomery County.
